Golden Springs Trial

Event Report

Woolbridge Motor Club hosted the Golden Springs Trial on the Sunday of the Southwest weekend at their usual and popular venue at Woolminstone near Crewkerne. Eight hills were set out across three fields and with such a large site they were wide and long giving lots options to succeed or fail on a climb.

Woolbridge motor club is very active with trials and there was a good turn out with a total of thirty-eight competitors across five classes. With continuing mixed bank holiday weekend weather grip varied throughout the day giving a good test for all level of drivers.

Class A saw the first two competitors in this new class for 2023 (New Car Class). Scores in this class were evenly matched across all four rounds with both drivers finishing only four marks apart after 32 hills.

Class B had a total of twelve competitors with a mix of local and BTRDA contenders. As per the previous day Tim Dovey shared a Clio Sport with his daughter Evie and Charlie was in his usual Silver Clio Sport. Both Tim and Charlie continued their dominance of the class with both scoring the lowest points on all four rounds. Charlie scoring less than his father taking the award for Best Woolbridge Motor Club competitor with Tim taking First in class. Simon Harris had a good day finishing not too far behind the Dovey’s and well ahead of Rupert North and Trevor Moffatt.  Neil Mackay was a little further back but ahead of Kevin Roberts, who after his retirement the previous day with a broken Dutton drove a borrowed a Suzuki Alto.

Class D had a reduced entry with the absence of Kevin Roberts. Duncan Stephens made his annual appearance driving Mark Hoppe’s Dutton Melos whilst mark Clerked the course.  He had an excellent start to the day dropping only one point on the first round compared to the next closest competitor Barrie Parker who was 13 behind. Barrie improved during the day taking points back from Duncan over two rounds but it was not enough giving Duncan the overall win on the event. Barrie secured first in class over the next nearest driver namely Ian Nute.
