Derwydd Car Trial

Event Report

Bala Motor Club ran the 2021 Derwydd Trial on the usual compact site near Llanfihangel. The conditions in the morning were pretty atrocious. The rain was relentless until lunchtime. The sections were all very tricky giving some high scores.

Class 1 showed Rupert North continuing his excellent season in his ‘new’ Suzuki Alto. Trevor Moffatt pushed him hard to be level at lunchtime. As the weather improved in the afternoon so did Rupert pulling out enough of a lead to give him the class win.

Class 2 had Garry Preston out in a Yugo 45 for the first time. He had a day long battle with the resurrected Fiat Seicento of Sion Rhisiart. The Fiat having smashed its radiator on the previous days event. The externally mounted temporary radiator and fan causing much mirth! The pair tied on points at the end with the class win going to Sion with more cleans.

Class 3 was the expected battle between Mark Hoppe and Barrie Parker which ended suddenly on round 3 when Mark`s gearbox had enough punishment. This handed the O/A win to Barrie as the pair of them were a long way ahead of the chasing pack. The class win was handed to a surprised John Charles.

A very challenging event in very tricky conditions. Well run with tough sections.
