What an event! The results went down to the last Test.
Dan Morris and Zak Linham took the overall win by the tightest of margins – 7 seconds.
Chris and Jamie Woolley went in to the last Test with a 20 second lead. Dan and Zak had suffered a puncture on the previous Test, but changed the wheel in the Test with a loss of only 100 to 110 seconds, incredible.
John Davies and Nick Bloxham were also fighting for the lead, but a shaft/steering failure put them out on Test 4.
There were various experiences across the BTRDA Championship Contenders.
The Burles experienced a little baulking, but were still having fun.
Colin and Harri Evans were clearly enjoying themselves in their BMW, the driver starting to listen to the navigator! It’ll be great to see Harri out driving next year, another young BTRDA competitor.
Martin Freeman and Kathy Woodward suffered from an intermittent misfire all day, but demonstrated that focussing on the finish brings rewards.
Steve Jellie and Michelle Crouch made it to the finish in their tractor, sorry, Clio. The finish was welcomed with the failing exhaust.
Nothing to report from James Appleby, we trust he had a solid result with no major issues, let us know James.
Our thoughts go out to John Rhys Jones and Sandra Loton-Edwards whose tow vehicle failed on the way down from Wales, leading to a non-start.
At last the Gold Star Championship REALLY starts to move after many even cancellations due to MoD activity. There are still another 4 Gold Star events, plus 2 Silver Star (maximum of 3 Silver Star to count for Gold Star). In theory, anybody could still take the Championship.
Chris Woolley leads the Drivers from Colin Evans and James Appleby.
The Navigators is proving VERY close with Jamie Woolley leading Zak Linham by 1 point. Both are Under 25 navigators, the BTRDA Targa Championship proving a great proving ground for young Navigators.
Zak is also doing well in BTRDA Allrounders with Targa Navigation points and two sprints. A BTRDA Autosolo will see Zak qualify for Allrounders with some excellent points (3 disciplines to count).
A nice video of the event created by a 12 year old spectator, great stuff https://youtu.be/CMsiBTq6jK8
Some words from Zak, sitting in the silly seat of the winning car:
“Kent Targa Win #2!
