Gold Star points after the Debden Targa
Many are using their three Silver Star rounds to add to their Gold Star points.
Chris and Jamie Woolley have taken part in all Gold and SIlver Star rounds to date, but their maximum number of scores to count will be hit. There’s still scope for others to challenge their existing lead.
The Woolleys have leapt in to the lead in both the Drivers’ and Navigators’ Championships, having scored points on every Gold and Silver Star round to date (Gold Star Contenders can score points on up to three Silver Star rounds).
Jamie also leads the coveted under 25 Navigators, with no less than nine under 25 Navigators registered for the Championship.
However dropped scores will kick in, the Championships are definitely not over yet.
David Lobb holds second in the Drivers’ Championship in his Vauxhall Adam, developing the car as the season progresses. It’s great to see a different car out on events.
The Welsh contingent is led by Huw Morris, but it’s expected that both John and Ethan Davies will emerge as the season progresses.
Zak Linham has also been out on every Gold and Silver Star event, with three different drivers! Unfortunately his run at Debden ended when Bob Milligan’s Mini lost drive. But there’s still plenty of events to go.
Aidan Thompson holds third in the Navigators, limited by sickness on the Stu Wood, with many navigators (and drivers) suffering from motion sickness. But no issues at Debden.
It was another enjoyable Debden Targa. The weather was warm, the surfaces mixed and the competition close.
Chris Woolley and Jamie Woolley had a good run at Debden, double driving their BMW Compact. No problems to report apart from a slow puncture.
David Lobb was second BTRDA driver to finish in the results in his Vauxhall Adam. David also navigated for overall event winner Matt Endean.
Alan Wakeman was third of the BTRDA finishers in his three wheeling Micra (but this still didn’t prevent the tread of a tyre failing, causing an overshoot). It isn’t just F1 drivers who suffer from flat spots! Alan had John Fox navigating for him.
Simon Phillips and Thomas Horst were next up. No problems reported.
John Fox was narrowly beaten by Simon/Thomas. This could have been different if a code board hadn’t been missed (Alan Wakeman, navigating, takes the blame!).
Richard and Brian Milbank were next up in their MG ZR. Again, no problems heard, but do share your stories.
Rob and Aidan Thompson were running with no issues in the “purple peril” Rover 200. The beast keeps on running and does them well.
Steve Jellie and Michelle Crouch were next up in the BTRDA rankings in their Clio.
Martin Freeman and Kathie Woodward were running well in their Peugeot 206 GTi, smiling as ever and thoroughly enjoying the event. The pace of the 206 is also clearly to their liking, having a little more pace than their previous Skoda.
Only just behind were Chris and Mike Phillips in their BMW.
Unfortunately there were two retirements from the BTRDA Contenders. Bob Milligan and Zak Linham were going well (as usual) in their classic Mini, setting good pace at first. However this came to an end with transmission failure. It seems that Debden could be a bogey venue for Bob as he didn’t fair well last year either, but he had just rebuilt the car after its previous event.
Tony and Louise Clements also fell by the wayside in their very nice Skoda Fabia VRS.
The Kemble Targa is next weekend, will we see a further change in the Championship positions?
