Robin Jager Sporting Trial

Event Report

Mike Salton debuting his new Hamilton car took it straight to the top of the leaderboard with an excellent win at the Robin Jager trial as the Autumn swing of the BTRDA and MotorsportUK championships got undrway. Andrew Woodhead took on C of C duties at the first trial of the year that was run under COVID regulations and set up 6 hills to be attempted four times.

John Fack set the early pace in the first trial back after the summer.

Although overhead conditions had been dry for some time the grass was lush and would catch out the unwary. The first round pace was set by reigning BTRDA Gold Star champion Bryan Walker and John Fack, who had pinched brother Jerome’s MSR and also enlisted his services in the passenger seat. Bryan and John only dropped the solitary point although with 13 other drivers within 4 points of the lead there was still a lot of work to do.

Round two saw the scoring remain low with MSUK championship contenders Richard Sharp and Josh Veale both going clear. This clear round took Josh to the top of the field with a running total of two, one point clear of Richard and Mike Salton.

Josh kept up the pace in round three with a second best round of four matched by Mike Salton, with Bryan Walker getting it going again after a below par round two had dropped him down he pulled himself back into contention with an excellent score of one moving himself into a share of second with Mike.

Mike Salton took the Jager win in his new car

As the final round began Josh still held a slender advantage of one point over Mike and Bryan with Richard a point further back in fourth. Once again however the pendulum swung and Mike had a super last round dropping just the solitary point to take the win. Bryan continued his steady march back up the leader board to clinch second position from Josh who had a disappointing final round to drop back to third overall, just ahead of championship rival Richard.

Jeff Armistead took the blue class win from Martin Grimwood finishing in an excellent 6th and 7th overall. Ian Blease-Dudley took the Rookie class win.
