With just two rounds remaining, Ian Bell retook the lead of the British championship by winning the November Sporting sporting trial overall by just four points from Ian Veale, run at Stoneacre Farm in Kent putting the championship on a knife edge with Bell forced to miss the last round.

Veale led after the first round of six hills with some fast trickling despite the light rain by a single point from Bell. Veale’s son Josh was just a couple of points further back in his live axle Sherpa ahead of former multiple champion Ian Wright.

The next round of sections saw Bell star with two brilliant climbs beating the whole entry by been the only competitor past the four post on each to lead at lunch by five points using all the power of his Mugen Honda engine and reset rear suspension. Ian Veale was still in second, ahead of Josh, Wright and championship leader John Fack who were covered by just two points.

Shortly after lunch the heavens opened making conditions exceptionally slippery, and some descents uncontrollable, which resulted in the event been stopped after three of the planned four rounds. Bell had done enough to win, but Veale closed by a point. Josh Veale maintained the final podium place ahead of Wright. Dave Rance had a better final round to equal Fack at the end, but with one more zero pushed Fack back to sixth, as he struggled for grip in the deteriorating conditions. Andy Wilks was looking to close in third in the championship with daughter Laura passengering, but could only manage ninth overall. Richard Robarts, used the power of his car to win the intermediate class in eleventh overall from Paul Faulkner, with John Cole winning the novice class.
