November Sporting
Event Report
Young Josh Veale won his maiden British championship sporting trial on Sunday at the November Sporting in Kent following an inspired final round.
British championship challengers Thomas Bricknell and Ian Bell took the early lead both dropping just five points on the first round, ahead of Richard Robarts. Bell took the lead over the next eight sections with half on a very slippery grassy bank, and the other on the contrasting dry bank dried by the sunshine. Veale was fourth at lunch but two fantastic climbs on the last round enabled him to win, in only his third season of championship trialling, proving an extremely popular winner. Bell, Robarts and Bricknell all tied three points behind finishing in that order, with Robarts winning the intermediate class from George Watson in sixth place overall. Simon Kingsley made the long trip from Yorkshire to Kent for the first time to finish in fifth place. Watson, Peter McKinney and Steve Courts had a daylong battle and were seperated by just two points at the end. Alastair Moffatt had replaced his engine in the preceeding week and won the novice class from John Cole in a creditable ninth overall, while Steve Wicken won the club sport section.
