This event is is the Memorial Meeting for 18 year old former rallycross and rally driver Dominic Yates who died in a road accident last Christmas.
All of the classes will be represented with all the championships still up for grabs with no driver showing total domination. A fantastic entry of 50 cars has been lined up for the event, which is a sign of the strength and depth of the Autosport International BTRDA Clubmans Championship.
Topping the entry and surely one of the favourites for the event is Simon Horton is his brand new 550bhp Subaru Impreza supercar. Simon has spent the winter building up his new machine and is very much looking forward to putting the car through its paces prior to its BRC debut at Lydden Hill in August.
With the event falling nicely in a break between British Championship events this has allowed some top drivers to join the action at the Blyton Circuit. One of these drivers is Geordie boy Michael Boak in his unique diesel powered Audi TT will definately give Simon Horton's Subaru a run for its money and will be looking for a trouble free run. Fresh from a complete car re-built Andy Knowles will bring his European spec Citroen C2 to the event and will be hoping for a competitive run prior to the next BRC meeting at Lydden Hill in August.Two other BRC regulars to watch out for are Phil Chicken in his VW Golf and last years BTRDA Champion Shelley Wakeling in her Honda Civic Type R.
The 26 car Super Modified class has been highly contested with the little 1400cc Rover Mini of Scottish driver Iain Biagi scoring three wins out of three, showing the way home to much more powerful machinery, proving its not always the biggest engines which succeed. Hot on his heels in the first few events have seen Gary Simpson in his RWD BMW, Kenny Hall Renault Clio, Gary Cook MG ZR and after losing a race against time to get his MR2 re-built after its recent roll John Wood, will be coming out in a new modified Peugeot 205 will all be aiming to knock Iain off top spot. Some other drivers to watch out for include Paul Wakeling in the very powerful AMG Mercedes powered MG ZS, Glen Guthrie in his VR6 powered VW Golf, Richard Moore in his Mitsubishi EVO powered Ford Fiesta and John Mooney who is always quick in his MK4 Astra. Also a driver making a return to Rallycross is local driver Craig Austin who will be using the ex John Wood Toyota MR2 MK1 for the very first time.
In the hotly contested Stockhatch category which is for 8v and 16v standard production cars with limited modifications a grid of 14 is entered for the event. This class also has seen a driver score 3 wins out of 3, with Martin Peters showing the rest that a Citroen Saxo VTR can lead the way. How on his heals in the first 3 events Ben Cree in his Peugeot 205 is likely to push Peters all the way to the flag and will be looking for his first win. Newcomers to the class, Craig Lomax and Dave Ellis in last years championship winning car will also be looking for good results after a few dramas and incidents in the first 3 meetings. The Polish duet of Slawowir Woloch and Tomasz Wielgosz who have both shown good levels of pace in the early events will also be looking for a good result. Other drivers to watch out for include John Rook, Chris Harper and Damon Fatchett who will all be aiming for good points finishes. Set to join the field at the event is Darren Swales in his newly built 16v Citroen Saxo and Lee Hickey's father (Steve) who will be joining his son in the class driving the ex Dave Pearson Peugeot 205. Rallycross newby Paul Maybourne will be hoping for another competitive meeting in only his 2nd rallycross event in the ex Ryan Lawford Peugeot 205 GTi. Another newby to the sport is Basingstoke driver Adam Walker who has a troubled debut event in April and is hoping for better things in his newly powered 16v Citroen Saxo VTS.
The Minicross class is the 3rd one in which a driver has scored 3 wins out of 3 which has seen Tommi Edwardes dominate events so far. How on his heels and both looking for their first wins of the year will be long time Minicross driver and Revivals owner Richard Wakeling and son of the former Super car driver Tony Bell, David Bell. Other drivers to watch out for in the class include new for this year Todd Crookes, Mark Griffin, class returnee Brian Wade and returning for a one off meeting after getting her exams out the way will be Kelly Bird, will all be aiming for good results.
A couple of Juniors are entered along with some rally cars which when added to the stockhatch and super modified entry will all provide a fantastic days racing.
