HCC Wales PCT win goes to Oliver too
The ground conditions in North Wales obviously suit Dave Oliver and his Hillman Imp to perfection. His total score on the Saturday was 15. He went one better at Clwyd Vale MC's event on the Sunday with only 14 marks lost all day – and 11 of those was when he drove out of section accidently. Others cleaned the hill, so he could have been on just 3. When you consider that the next best score was 48, and the next best in his class was 71, you get some measure of the performance.
With four past British and BTRDA Gold Star champions in Class A, the scores were always going to be close. But it was David Holmes who put the cat among the pigeons with the class lead in his Fiat Panda until the last round when he mis-timed a turn to score a seven. However, he still took second in the class behind a resurgent Les Andrew's Peugeot 104. Barrie Parker (104) and Neil Mackay (Panda) were 3rd and4th, with a Garry Preston having a relaxing day in fifth.
Derek Barnes took a well deserved Class B win in his Golf from Siõn Matthews in a Nova; while Malcolm Brown won Class C in his Westfield from Jeff Buchanan's Mazda MX5.
Behind Dave Oliver, the battle was intense, with Colin Weeks' MG Midget just losing out to the re-diffed Marlin of John Ludford, two marks being the difference in the end.
No surprises that Dave Oliver won overall for the second time in the weekend. The rain arrived just as everybody was packing up, and the timing didn't spoil the competition. An enjoyable weekend in North Wales – hopefully to be continued next year.
