MSF Profile – Josh Veale

Name – Josh Veale

Hometown – Stony Knaps (Somerset) and Oxford

Age – 20

Disciplines you support / compete within – Sporting Trials

Plans for 2008 within motorsport – well where do we start; I want to do a lot more events but as with so many things it's not easy when you're a student with nowhere to keep and maintain a car. So it's whenever dad will lend me his car or anyone else who has one going, hint hint!!!!!

What is the average cost of an event you compete in – At the moment the car and fuel is supplied by my dad so it comes fully maintained and normally in good working order and if I'm very lucky I get a mechanic with it too. (dad) If you're counting, I guess it adds up to at least £100 per event when you take into account entry fee, fuel to and from the event and wear and tear.  Cheap in comparison to most motorsports

How did you get started in motorsport – My family has been trailing for many years, my Granddad did classic trials and I was bought up going to events with my dad who has been competing in sporting trials for as long as I can remember. Inheriting the family bug I have been desperate to get involved and now I'm at an age where I can.

When was your first event – October 2007 at the Piccadilly sporting trial in Gloucester. My dad kindly lent me his car and he even offered to passenger for me; I'm not sure if he was looking after me or the car!!! The conditions were not ideal for a first trial as it was very wet and required a lot of commitment, not ideal for your first event. However with Dads guidance I came 15th and second in class, which I was very pleased with.

How long have you been involved in motorsport – One way or another all my life, but only as a competitor for the last 3 or 4 years. I have been involved in the BTRDA motorsports futures within the last year.

High points of your involvement –  Coming 10th out of 28 in only my second event and not only winning the Novice class but finishing ahead of the semi-expert winner (the class above) as well as a number of drivers from the expert class too.

Future plans – I want to get my own sporting trials car and compete on a regular basis, but in reality it depends on where I am living and what I am doing – however motorsport definitely comes very high up on my list priorities so the aim is to compete at national level in sporting trials. I am also very keen to have a go at some other motorsports disciplines such as autotests and 'production' or classic car trials.
