Reining British champion Roland Uglow made the long trip to Cumbria to once again win the Robin Jager trial, named after his good friend, the opening sporting trial after the summer break. Conditions were extremely dry on the steep hillside about Melmerby with Uglow dropping just six points over the four rounds.

Brian Walker separated them in fourth with Martin Grimwood in seventh. Alan baker travelled from Gloucestershire to net eighth overall and the novice class win just ahead of Mike Salton and John Cole who completed the top ten.
