Father and son Kingsley win on tie-break

Northern Pheonix Trials Car Club
BTRDA, NPTCC Championship
Hartside, Cumbria
17 starters

Simon Kingsley won the Raymond Baxter Sporting trial high up in Cumbria after thirty sections that altered massively during the day on a tie break from Barry Hogg.

Overnight snow made conditions extremely slippery on the six hills laid out for the first couple of rounds. Bryan Walker took the lead over the first two rounds from BTRDA Championship leader Richard Sharp, who then broke a driveshaft ending his day. Walker slipped up dropping a seven just before lunch which saw Kingsley take the lead by a point from Hogg, with Mike Salton and Walker two points behind. The snow thawed as the sun eventually shone on the hills and traction improved massively. Kingsley dropped a careless eight just after lunch which looked to hand the win to Hogg, who then slipped up during the final round and lost the trial on most sections climbed. Mike Salton had a consistent afternoon to complete the podium, best live axle and most creditably best novice. Walker slipped back to fourth with another mistake. Brian Thornton was second in the intermediate class behind Hogg in his venerable Kincraft. Richard Waterhouse won the club class in sixth overall and Colin Campbell finished just outside the top ten securing second in the novice class.

Reasons to come to this trial!

The NPTCC is running a Clerk of Course training session with Ian Wright the day before the trial. So at least the 1st round will have good hills!
We will be doing the Jonathan Gibbs "if you start on the hill on round one you will not be first in round two" style of draw.
The site is large so we have lots of scope for the sections.
We are following Martin Grimwoods lead and having 4 rounds of 8 hills.
Yes thats 32 Hills!
We promise to give you wide hills with a good choice of route wherever possible!
So what could be better? Come to sunny Cumbria (that might be a bit of a stretch) and have a great day out!

If you haven't been out for a while remember that as this is a dual permit trial, you can enter the clubman event and you don't need a competition licience or BTRDA membership. All you need is a car and to pay £3 for day membership of the NPTCC and off you go! There is even a separate class for live axles!
