Event Report
Josh Veale slips up and lets a determined Steve Courts cross the line first overall at a freezing wet Jacobean Sporting Trial on Sunday.
In attrocious conditions Josh and Andy Bell led after the first round of hills that were set out lower than normal due to the land owners restrictions in the wet conditions, both dropping just three points. However Andy dropped a point back after two rounds whereby Josh was still leading having dropped just six points.
After a very brief lunch (refuel of cars and people) the first few hills proved too much for Josh and a few points were dropped which let Steve slip into a tie for the lead on thirteen with Steve taking the win due to more one's. It was great to see one of the oldest and youngest competitor tie for the lead, both in live axle cars running on petrol! Tom Bricknell had a quiet day and finished just a point behind in third sneaking into the top three in the MSA championship at the same time.
With the trial finished by 1315, competitors moved to the pub at the end of the track to warm up and tried to work out who had won. Glen understandably took a while to work out the scores due to the conditions.
Josh's won the intermediate class from Dave Oliver, who retained his lead in the ASWMC championship. Nick Speed had an inspired day to finish in eleventh overall and by far the best green competitor ahead of John Cole and Ian Fullwood.
