Wyre Forest

Event Report

Henry Kitching won his first car trial of the year, making the most of the largest class at the Wyre Forest event hosted at the historic “orchard” by Kidderminster Motor Car Club. Kitching excelled in the long wet lush grass after a poor first round that saw Trevor Moffatt continue his form of a week ago, however Kitching slowly opened up a twentysix point lead over the thirtytwo hills. A heavy 20 minute shower over lunchtime spiced conditions up further and Ray Jacobs had a fabulous third round to take the lead in the very competitive front wheel drive class which he held till the end and netted second overall. Dave Oliver won the rear wheel drive class for the first time this year in his Imp, ending the dominance of Mark Hoppe who could only manage third in class, behind Barrie Parker who suffered with a puncture. Philip Buckle’s poor third round dropped him into a close battle in the front wheel drive class beating Colin Reid by a point and Motorsport UK Championship leader Garry Preston by another point. Steve Hoskins drove his diesel Arosa well to finish a very creditable third in the new car class, and sixth overall.  Tim Beard was fourth having returned to the sport in a Ford Ka after a couple of years sabbatical after repeatedly breaking his Saxo. Stalwart rear wheel drive Kevin Roberts and son Ifan debuted the ex Shawn Franklin BTRDA Gold Star winning Saxo and made some good climbs while they were getting used to the car being driven from the opposite end to their usual RWD Dutton.
