Grand Final Car Trial
Event Report
Simon Harris wins the BTRDA Car Trials championship final for the second year in succession (as a stand-alone event) but proved not to be enough to stop Henry Kitching from winning the championship Gold Star in an unprecedented close finish to the season. Simon now regrets experimenting with a different car earlier in the year!
Simon’s superiority in his Mark 1 Golf Gti was sublime to win the front wheel drive class by forty five points, despite an error straight after lunch. Harris used all the torque and knowledge of the car’s characteristics to star all day. Henry Kitching similarly drove extremely well, beating Trevor Moffatt by a similar margin in the new car class. Both making the very wet muddy wide hills look easy all day with some superb trickling. Following heavy overnight rain Barrie Parker would be revelling in the Westfield’s 2nd gear burning power and led overall at lunch, but couldn’t turn this into an overall win at the end of the day following some big scores in the afternoon on hills which were climbed by other class members. Dave Oliver had an improved afternoon to close the gap and finish fourth overall from Moffatt in fifth overall. Rupert North was left in Harris’ wake using the Mini nimbleness to find some fresh grass.
Official championship results to follow.
