Golden Springs
Event Report
Garry Preston didn’t fail to disappoint and took an anticipated overall win at the Golden Springs Car Trial, his first having returned to the sport a couple of years ago in his little nimble Fiat 127. A daylong battle for overall ensued with long standing friend Barrie Parker, who was trying extremely hard in the rear wheel drive class having got used to the Westfield again. The afternoon saw Parker suffer from an engine mounting failure, but Preston was the driving brilliantly on the steep dry sections. Henry Kitching won the new car class from Trevor Moffatt in the battle of Corsas. Rupert North was struggling with the bumpy nature of the venue in his Mini but managed to salvage second in class behind Preston, ahead of Richard Harrison, Neil Mackay and Simon Harris who had their own battle covered by a handful of points.. John Charles finished second in the rear wheel drive class. In only his third trial Tim Dovey won the clubman class in his Clio from Dan DeChazal. The event also saw a Motorsport UK taster event for SUV type vehicles. A Dacia Duster and Freelander competed both thoroughly enjoying the day with Mervyn Taylor dropping one more point over the thirty two hills than Barrie Parker.
