BTRDA Grand Final Trial
Event Report
Nick Pollitt excelled in the early extremely slippery conditions and extended his class lead all day, in his step son's totally standard Citroen Saxo VTR, to win the BTRDA Car Trials Championship Final overall and take the coveted Gold Star. Eighty nine year old Ken Payne passengered Nick, who had won the title a distant twenty five years previously.
Steve Courts once again had a titanic battle with Dave Oliver all day with each leading the class at various points, but it was Steve who took the class win by just four points on a high scoring day and finish 0.3% behind Nick for Gold Star.
Neil Mackay lead the front wheel drive class until the last round where 2010 MSA British Car Trials champion Duncan Stephens put in a determined charge with two good climbs to overhaul Neil. This nearly proved enough to win overall, but Duncan also finished within 1% of Pollitt, winning the Silver Star as consolation with a maximum score, the first for a number of years. Julian Archard's equally stunning afternoon was enough for him to climb to second in class having been fourth at lunch and win the class award.
Dave Thomas' third in class gave him the Bronze star championship ahead of Dave Walker (who beat him on the day) in the new car class by twenty three points.
