CSMA NE London Group Autotest
Event Report
Glorious sunshine greeted the 22 competitors on the Juniper Autotest held at Rockingham Raceway on Sunday for the 10th round of the Demon Tweeks BTRDA Autotest championship. Richard Pinkney (Caterham 7) took an immediate lead after three tests, with Dave Fox (Mini 1600) and Dave Mosey (Mini 1430) just 3 seconds behind. Mosey’s 5 second penalty on the very first test was to prove costly at the end of the day. Championship leader Chris Chapman (Striker 1800) was a further 2 seconds down. Pinkney extended his lead on the next three tests to 7 seconds over Mosey and Chapman, Fox having collected a 5 second penalty. Â
The lunchtime scoreboard, after nine tests, showed Pinkney having a 6 second lead over Mosey, with Chapman now 3 seconds further behind. Fox maintained his 4th place with Malcolm Livingston (Lindsay Special 1600) just 2 seconds behind in 5th. The saloon car class was in the full control of Willie Keaning (Nova 1600), who was over 80 seconds ahead of Murray Walker, who’s car he was sharing!
The nine afternoon tests began without drama, with Mosey, Chapman, and Fox continuing their pursuit of Pinkney, but Livingston faltered and fell further behind Fox. Mosey put the hammer down over the last 6 tests, and finished tied on identical times with Pinkney, with Chapman a further 12 seconds behind and Fox another 10 seconds down, his best ever result on a championship event. Livingston was just 3 seconds behind Fox but still won the specials class, whilst Keaning won the saloon class at a canter. Mosey’s 5 second penalty on the first test meant that he lost the tie break with Pinkney, leaving all to play for on the last round of the championship in 3 weeks time.
