Event Report

Could it have been a record entry for the Nat B section of an AutoSOLO at the Bath MC Summer AutoSOLO at Kemble on the 20th August? There 33 Nat B competitors amongst the entry of 54 and it was good to see the Nat B competitors were in the first two groups reducing the possibility of anybody getting a dry run advantage. From the entry of BTRDA, ASWMC, WAMC, ACSMC, Cotswold MSG championships and Vincenzo & Son MX5 Challenge it would be expected that competition was going to be close. And so it was over the 12 runs at 4 layouts. There was never more than 1.6 secs between the top 2 and it ended up at just 0.1 secs. FTD man was Jamie Yapp in the Clio 172 who beat Liam Rollings in his mini with the newly built gearbox. It was Liam’s first event for a year and who knows what will happen when he gets back to his old pace. James Hurford was the quickest of the 17 sports cars – 16 MX5s and 1 Honda S2000!

In the BTRDA championship the maximum class points for Jamie gives him a chance of overhauling the current points leader, Alan Wakeman, who came a solid second to Liam with Richard Pain not too far behind in 3rd spot in Class A. In Class B BTRDA Allrounder John Fox (Clio) went well to push Jamie Yapp and got some good Allrounders points coming 2nd in a class of 12 whilst fellow Allrounder Phil Darbyshire got his 3rd group result. Ben Heggs came out for only the second time this year in his 2.0 Ford Fiesta Si and was 4th only losing out to Hadyn Marks in the hairy 2.0 BMW 318i on the final layout. Having one of the lesser powered cars (MG ZR 1.8) in Class B Richard Olsen did well to finish 6th whilst Emma was 9th.

In the large sports car class Mark Summers didn’t have one of his best days and ended up mid class whilst Peter Cox in his S2000 did at least finish the event, unlike the brothers Welsh who had to retire when contact with a cone resulted in a split radiator.

I said earlier about the running order and so the good news was the rain didn’t start till after all the Nat B entry had run and only came down as the awards were presented by CoC Mike Patton.
