Peter Blankstone Sporting Trial
Midland Automobile Club
MSA, BTRDA, REIS ASWMC Championships
35 starters
Ian Bell won the Peter Blankstone sporting trial on Sunday for the third time in the last four years infront of MAC one thousand breakfast club. Bell led after the first round of sections that proved to be extremely slippery, but light rain meant the ground rapidly detoriated further. Andy Wilks moved ahead at lunch after a couple of Bells trickles went wrong resulting in big scores. A poor last round, in sunshine, saw Wilks slip to third overall six points back.
Roland Uglow improved as the day progressed after a poor first round to climb upto second overall at the close. Duncan Stephens scored the best final round to move up from sixth to fourth with some determined multiple gear changing driving, ahead of Gold Star champion Josh Veale who finished top live axle.
Steve Courts won the intermediate class three points ahead of Paul Price just outside the top ten overall and Martin Grimwood who had attended the training day the day before. Alan Murton, in his self built car, travelled up from Cornwall and had a brilliant day to win the novice class in a fantastic fifteenth overall from Richard Thomas who hasn’t been out for a year just five points behind.
