Emotional Uglow secures British hat-trick

Roland Uglow secured his third straight MSA British Sporting Trial championship at the final round on Sunday, the Gloster Trial with an emphatic win during the afternoon. Uglow had fought hard and had never had to secure the championship at the last round, meaning it meant so much more.

Lunchtime saw Ian Veale lead Uglow by a point, with John Fack a point further back as the grassy sections deteriorated. Despite sections been moved to fresh grass engine revs soon increased apart from Uglow who drove sublimely to drop just three points on the last round to beat Veale by eight points. Paul Price completed the podium who just beat Richard Sharp who secured runner up in the MSA championship.
John Fack dropped to fifth just ahead of Simon Kingsley who went the wrong side of a post on the last round costing him third overall.
Ian Wright borrowed customer Stuart Beare’s Sherpa Indy to finish in seventh thinking it had more top end power than his own car. Josh Veale finished top red live axle in ninth, while his brother Sandy won the rookie class in a creditable sixteenth just behind blue independent winner John Cole.
David Hailes was revelling with the extra power the 16Valve Suzuki engine was offering to win the blue live axle class. Phil Haines won the clubman class on a challenging day.
Peter McKinney had recruited Brita Goodwin who had flown in from Australia for a week and not seen a trial beforehand to passenger finishing eleventh overall.
