July Welsh Weekend

Event Report

Olly wins again and loses again; Tim Lakin makes the long journey worthwhile!

Saturday's Gerry P Evans Memorial Cymru Trial was won in fine style by Dave Oliver; driving his Hillman Imp, Dave incurred only 2 penalty points all day but had to wait until the fifth round to secure the win from Bill Moffatt, driving a similar car, who finished on 5 points. Also achieving terrific low scores were Tim Lakin, Marlin; Garry Preston, Fiat 850; and young Julian Archard, Fiat 127. Neil Mackay contested the event in a hastily acquired Citroen AX, pending the repair of his Panda after destroying the diff on the Wye Valley trial.

Sunday's HCC Wales Trial was won in equally fine style by Tim Lakin (Marlin) following a reversal of Olly's fortunes with a broken diff during the second round. Following Saturday's dry event, Sunday's ranged from damp to rainy and made the day very challenging. Barrie Parker had to draw on his immense experience to keep Julian Archard at bay, although minor tweaks to his Peugeot 104 overnight had overcome some performance shortcomings experienced on Saturday.

Once again, many competitors stayed overnight on Saturday and enjoyed another great social evening with conversations ranging from broken diffs to "how to make white chocolate?" (Don't ask!).
