Golden Springs
Event Report
Woolbridge Motor Club successfully re-arranged the Golden Springs car trial, having delayed it three weeks ago due to the heavy snow, and managed to attract a bumper thirty one entries with a good turnout of national and clubman competitors.
BTRDA Car Trials Chairman Neil Mackay took first honours in his ageing Citroen AX, leading the ballasted front wheel drive class all day and achieving a fabulous climb just before lunch. He didn’t relinquish during the afternoon, despite reigning Gold Star champion Shawn Franklin’s best efforts, to win the class by 6 points, dropping just fourteen points all day despite extremely slippery conditions. These two drivers dropped less than half anyone else score. Barrie Parker held onto the rear wheel drive class despite a panic grab of second gear on the last hill as he nearly span to a halt, to beat Cotswolds champion Dick Glossop who has stepped up to National level by a single point. Franklin had to settle for fourth overall and second in class. Trevor Moffatt won the new car class as he slowly opened up a twenty five point lead over veteran John Wadsworth but a small class meant he could only manage fifth overall. Reigning British champion Rupert North had failed to respray his iconic Mini due to the cold weather so made the long trip from Yorkshire to borrow a local car but only managed a distant third in class.
